Kal and all, this might help the stock Monday...

IBM's Lotus Development unit said it will introduce on Monday a set of applications and software tools based on SUN MICROSYSTEMS INC's Java programming language. The new products, developed under the code-name "Kona," will be publicly unveiled at a press briefing on Monday hosted by Lotus president Jeff Papows at New York's Millennium Hotel in midtown Manhattan. Lotus has been tight-lipped about
details of the release and has kept to itself even the name of the new software line. (Reuters 02:10 PM ET 10/31/97)

<< UNIX is not simple. >>
I have been a Unix sys admin for several years and believe me it is not simple. First of all, there are several varieties dependent upon the hardware manufacturer. Where I work now, we have Sun, HP and IBM equipment. For each manufacturer, there are different OS releases. It's not possible to upgrade every server and client at the same time.
Admittedly, there are a lot of similarities between versions, but also major differences. However, UNIX is very powerful and versatile. We also have NT. The NT servers are used for the less compute intensive applications.
Oh,by the way, our management wants to move towards Sun equipment in the future. We're probably going to buy an E10000 in the near future at a price tag of $3,000,000.
PS, I'm long SUNW at about 38 and fully expect to make a profit next year if not before,
