But I agree, the stimulus could have been 50% smaller and more targeted. Ideally, I would have liked to see $400B on renewable energy as a stimulus. I hate giveaways of any kind, but I do support stimulus that is focused on strategic investments that have a return on investment. However, at the end of the day, the proof is in the pudding. The economy is on the mend and the stock market is up 60-70% since Mar'09. You can thank Obama and the Dems for their quick action for the economic recovery. Yet another mess, Obama and the Dems had to clean up from the Bush years. What perplexes me, though, is that if you hate that we spent $800B on stimulus for Americans, why are you in support of spending $1 trillion Iraqis and Afghanis with zero return on investment? Cheney said the wars would be paid for with Iraqi oil money. That didn't happen. Instead, it has been a giant money pit with zero return on investment. Why are you for foreign nation building, but not for domestic nation building? That seems very backwards to me. Foreign policy is much better. Obama's celebrity had an instant positive impact on relationships with all of our allies, which we sorely needed, since Bush managed to become the laughingstock of the world. Second, he has embarked on a plan to wind down Iraq by Summer 2010, just as promised. Third, unlike Bush, he doesn't run pellmell into war without thinking about it. I like the fact that he's thinking long and hard about our vision and strategy for Afghanistan before committing to a tactic to throw more troops into it. Your judgement on Afghanistan is too early. I will be pissed as hell if he splits the baby there too. I believe we should get the hell out period, but if we decide to fight, then I believe in total war. No half measures. And PLEASE, no more nation building. If some country attacks us, then we should engage them in war to destroy them and leave. We have plenty of nation building to do right here at home, if we are so inclined. We should think of this country first.
