there's an interesting story in reuters businees news talking about the fact that history shows that the first bounce back from a steep selloff, which is usually 50% of the initial selloff is NOT the bottow but is followed by some short stability and then another selloff to test new lows... the first ralley is small investor buying to pick up perceived bargains, but who sell out when it turns lower again... worsening the decline... I've heard this several times in the last week and my broker has advised me to keep a good amount of powder dry for the next 2 months... be that as it may... amat is in a screaming industry, long term... and the next two years will be exponential growth years, IMO...

Brian, throw in Carl Johnson's comments from the same article, and no doubt, it's a very bullish article. This article and the AEA conf next week ought to push the stocks higher next week...unless some cautious stuff is said at the conf.

This Hutcheson guy sounds very bullish and addresses the Taiwan issue, but alot of things that I am concerned about are not mentioned. Also, I'm not sure where he gets his numbers....all the other estimates for chip growth from the usual suspects such as Dataquest, SIA, etc expect chip sales to increase in the 15% range....this guy is shooting for 22%!!! what did the others miss in their already optomistic numbers that this guy knows about, plus he's off on this 1997 estimates also...most others say a 5.5% increase not 9.3%....what has been his track record in the past??

Very bullish article indeed, it may be a good time to jump in for a short term gain as the bulls rally and party at the AEA next week.

Brian,
Time will tell, but I think he will regret such optimistic predictions
short term.
Just my opinion
By the way consider me bullish long term, it is just short term
that I think equipment stocks will languish.
