Yeah, I can see why but ultimately, I think it was a bad decision -- certainly for the country, but also for their own political interests. They are being damaged badly by this process IMO. Other than the hard left, everyone can see that they have not even tried to have an open process.

America made a mistake by electing an inexperienced president then giving him a rubber-stamp congress (or vice-versa, I'm not sure which is the rubber-stamp). Because of the way the Ds have wielded this power the Rs, who were universally hated a year ago, have re-emerged and are very likely to take back control next year.

Everyone blames that on the economy but I think it is the overstepping on the legislative agenda that has done it.
