<to be able to do thier "thing". >

These sentiments you express strike me as really silly. Being a second generation California native whose been in 38 of the 50 states I bear no animosity toward any who's here other than I'd like them to clean up after themselves and try not to spoil the place any further. We are suffering from a change in the economic climate and that's the problem now. We got indigestion from the rate of change and the sudden stop.

Most of what people believe to be true about the state is not really very true but the product of an image portrayed on TV. It might be true in some places but not in others. Unlike very large tracts of the middle part of the country, it is not all the same, either in climate or social temperament. California is actually ahead of most places in terms of the impact of the individual on the environment. There is nothing wrong here that can't be fixed and lot of what we do is just 20 years ahead of everyone else.

California is an urban, suburban, agricultural, forested, or a desolate place depending upon where you look. It can be infuriating or paradise, depending where you live . But when I fly over America on my business travels, there are few places with as many people where the impact on the environment is more tolerable. Most populous states have similar problems as California but to a greater degree. There is a reason I live here as opposed to the other states, I've visited.
