I was thinking about jobs rather than dollar value.

The number of Americans employed in manufacturing today is around 16 million about the same as 50 years ago.

In the same 50 years the US population has nearly doubled.

I wonder if that is still true. Even if it is we are certainly on a track that will make it false very soon.
