Lets focus on Iran, we had 8 years with a more aggressive effort from the Bush administration through the UN and our allies. Sanctions and diplomatic efforts were supposed to be the way to go instead of with force. So where was Obama in September? During Obama's watch Iran had some rather nasty elections with more human rights violations and now hardliners have hardened their grip. The Iranians saw their neighbors gain a democracy in Iraq. Other oppressed people have also seen this transformation. The Iraqi's at least will have as clear an opportunity to self determine as can be expected. No doubt the torture chambers and prisons on the countries you referenced are full of people wishing their country had that opportunity.
