How about dealing with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Perhaps Libya's response to our efforts in Iraq. Bush's war on terror has left the USA untouched. How about failures of appearing weak? Neville Chamberlain with Hitler. Pearl Harbor. OBL provoking attacks leading up through 9 11. Inspiration thanks to our weakness in Mogadishu. Obama projects too much of an image of weakness to me and I am sure our adversaries see it as an opportunity. Tangible results of owning a hand gun in your house are difficult to measure. How many houses are not robbed because the owner may be armed.
