Ahh-yes. I remember it well. The trips to the steam tunnels down beneath the Grammar School. The propaganda films showing first the flash and and then the ducking techniques. W

We did think it was a threat. Little did we know that that peasant Khrushchev pounding his shoe on the UN table saying "We will bury you" was only bluffing.

The Soviet Empire, as such, morphed into a political power with rational state power projections post "the Russian Missile Crisis". Prior to that I will agree that there had always been an element of "fanaticism" (Marx/Engles doctrine was akin to a Religious creed) attached to the Communist State.

Would you agree that the present Russian State is no longer in these throes? And that Iran's government is driven by religious doctrine?
