first cousins to marry

One advantage is that family reunions are not an event where one spouse feels left out.

No. It is illegal in Missouri but was legal in California several years ago. Maybe that has changed.

Nadine,

I don't get this - isn't it legal for first cousins to marry in most states?

Probably reflective anti-Catholic rhetoric - since the church doesn't approve of cousins marrying.

Legal and wise are two different things (genetically speaking).

You can't marry anyone closer then 3rd cousin in WI. The recessive gene thing is the issue not a moral or church problem.

It's a real problem in the Amish community that ends up with inbreeding and a lot of genetic problems.
