Another method of evaluating a reviewer is to read their reviews of the same wine over time. The best reviewers get to see the same wines years apart. If they gave it a high mark young and then a lower mark a few years later and a still lower mark when it was supposed to be peaking they still have a bit to learn.

This is one reason I like the Wine Advocate. I didn't agree with Robert Parker's reviews of Burgundy wines but then he hired a Frenchman to do them for him. Parker knows Bordeaux and that style wine cold.

I don't have anyone I trust on Italian wines.
