nothing will change with entitlements until we can no longer borrow the money to keep the gravy train going to everyone

==

That's it in a nutshell, so long as we can borrow readily then a $250b tax cut spread over ten years isn't going to result in seniors getting a cut in benefits, every politician knows this, they also know that when the gravy train ends they will be long out of office and more than likely dead.

Dale, I don't think this was a deflationary year for retirees. And the deflation we had, i.e. lower house prices and lower portfolio values, are not of any value to retirees....quite the opposite.

Excluding home prices, I would say 2009 has actually been a slightly inflationary year on average, and definitely an inflationary year (mainly medical costs) for the retired.

Yes, I know Geithner and Bernanke, decreed this to be a deflationary year. Actually they did this back in Feb. which is rather bizarre. But decreeing it doesn't make it so.

The thing that makes me mad about the COLAs is that I believe in shared sacrifice. I had assumed that the O admin would raise taxes on the wealthy back to the Clinton levels and decrease military spending back toward the Clinton levels. So far the only sacrificing seems to be directed toward the retired.

Yesterday I signed an e mail petition that supported some Senator recommending that our leaders get the same Health Care plan that they finally adopt for the country.

It sounded like a FAIR idea to me. Darn elitists.. AND Progressives are called elitists. I hardly know what that means I have so few privileges....

But I discovered the best privilege of all this past year.

One's health. It cannot be bought and when one is without it living is very difficult.
