Wonder if this is happening any other place. I live in a small-medium sized town. We've always enjoyed a lot of benefits from a large business base that's allowed us to have our own police and fire department. But businesses are moving out of California. The company I used to work for had their corporate headquarters here but moved it to Virginia. That was a loss of 500 jobs here. Other large corporations are also leaving.

First the state came in and robbed us of $1 million calling it a loan, which the mayor and city council doubt will ever be paid back. Now they've come in and taken another $8 million, which is going to force us to have to contract with the county to use their fire department services. That potentially means 15-20 minute delay, depending on traffic.

It's a choice of raising the business tax more, further taxing the residents or contracting the fire department.

Got a call from the Gallup Poll tonight. Interesting questions and qualifiers.

First they wanted to talk to the oldest male in the house, if unavailable, the person with the closest birthday.

The first question was about Obama's job approval: strongly approve to strongly disapprove and 3 choices in between.

Next were questions about the census: whether I'd participate; had I heard rumors about the census; did I think the census department would use the information to find illegals; had I heard there were only 10 questions to answer; would I let a census worker in my home.

I said if Acorn or the White House was conducting the census, I wouldn't participate. She said she didn't have that question, so she said, I'll put you down for a no.

There were several questions about the state of my health - like the questions you answer when first visiting a doctor's office. Questions about well-being, state of happiness and satisfaction, depression, could I afford to buy food and provide shelter, how much in debt, did I have health insurance, pay for healthcare myself or does employer, employed through employer or self-employed, which bank did I use, what was my monthly income, was I white, black or Hispanic.
