I think how we respond to terrible situations in our life- the loss of a loved one, financial ruin, war, disaster- is very dependent on our biological make up. I'm sure there is a nurture component- but the studies I've seen lately make me think the nurture part is a lot smaller than the "nature" part.

We all run in to terrible terrible times in our lives- if drugs make you feel better, you are probably one of the "unlucky" ones- because you won't be forced to work your way through without them. I find it impossible to blame people for trying to blunt their own pain.
