JSaf - I also think the Westy "estimates" are too low. I just used them because I felt they were safe and I wanted to get the topic out there for a real thrash around of the numbers to get a handle on just how big this COULD be. We know we're not going to get all the contract fingerprint business but by putting our heads together we might be able to arrive at reasonable figures that will give us a clue as to the future revenue. IL is a big state - there are many not so big states. If the Sylvan project is handled the way the Oracle project was in its infancy we're in trouble. We can't take another called strike. We should try and collect all the different views of what analysts think (even Westy) the daily need for contract fingerprints could be and go from there. Remember - we will split the income with Sylvan.

Caroline and Daughters,

You have discovered RatMan......and one of the reasons that IDX has decided to take the path that will make them "the" biometric company.

Nobody wants big brother to control our lives. I don't, you don't.

But we want security in our lives. We don't want to be the victim of a mugging, because a thief wants our credit cards. We don't want others to find our credit card and charge up a storm. We don't want someone else to take out a credit card in our name, using our SS #.

Biometrics holds the answer to these problems, and holds the promise of safe transactions on the internet.......It also holds the potential for abuse by government.

The government can take all of your money and your life right now, if they wanted to.....I don't think that biometrics will change that. If you are worried about law enforcement being able to use the data that would be on the smart card....then the IDX pattern recognition is the system that you should support.

I like the idea that nobody can be me, nobody can use any of my credit cards, and that my transactions over the web are secure. Although I believe that privacy is an important issue, I believe that the promise of the security will win out.....as the internet become the marketplace of the future and the favorite target of the cyber criminals.

Criminal background checks are a different story. You must run the print against a law enforcement data-base, because the information on criminality is there.

I firmly believe that ANYONE who adopts, drives, or works with children in any way, should have a fingerprint background check. For $17.00 and results in 3 hours.......It is money and time very well spent.

I feel the same way about stock brokers, doctors, policemen, teachers, health care workers.......etc. I have posted several articles that clearly show a trend towards live-scan fingerprint background checks. I expect this trend to excelerate. I guess I feel that the right of safety and security of the child takes priority over the right to privacy for the school janitor...or teacher.....or bus driver......and I don't want a doctor who's licence has been revoked in several other states moving to Idaho and operating on me.

This is what the big picture is all about....This is why I own Identix. I think Identix knows that millions upon millions of civilian tenprint cards will be done each year....and that it will be a super business, providing a quality service to good people in a non-law-enforcement environment. Sylvan will grow....and will be a major part of the IDX family of enterprises........and did I mention that IDX's pattern recognition will be adopted, (with RatMan's blessing) as the standard for internet commerce?
