We had a severe disagreement with the company we had a maintenance contract with, so we changed companies. A guy came out Friday and told us what was wrong. It makes no sense to put $1400 into a furnace that has used up 80% of its useful lifespan, so we're getting a new one.

Am I taking the Tax Credit from the govamint? Yer dam tootin'. Just because they're stupid doesn't mean I am.

I'm taking the one from Avista too.

The sales guy comes out tomorrow to make sure we can use the high efficiency furnace.

Speaking of cold weather...

The kids who perished in the Children's Blizzard on January 12, 1888 were trying to get home from school after their teachers ran out of fuel and realized if they stayed they would all freeze. Where some teachers failed the children was that they let them all go their own way out into a blinding blizzard where the temps reached -40. The day had started out quite mild, so most of them wore only light coats or no coats at all.

Forget hats and gloves.

One of the fascinating aspects of this book is the author writes very detailed description of events and the science behind them.........why what happens happens. In one chapter he described in great detail what happens to human beings when they freeze. I know it sounds gruesome, but he was very thorough and it was really quite interesting. I now realize if my internal body temperature goes below 80 degrees, and I'm not slowly warmed within 30 minutes.....I'm pretty much a goner
