AT.. with all the admissions of rigged markets, dishonest and unethical trading and maniupulation of the sheeplike common investor.. I'm tempted to start the cynic's thread :~) ... but I'm too optimistic for that. Since I trust the people behind the scenes and at the top in many corporations to be greedy, narrow minded, opportunistic sob's I do pretty well trading with that in mind.

To wrap this up, sometimes a stock buyback isn't a vote of managment confidence in the stock, sometimes its just the opposite... sometimes they're selling puts by the thousands and dead-panning the company's prospects to drive the stock down to where its put to them at low prices. A profitable way to bring in some shares prior to a miraculous turnaround.

I'm reminded of that wonderful portrait of JP Morgan... sitting in his three piece suit, eyes focused on the viewer... one almost misses the knife he's holding in his hand.

Hi AT re >>there is a lot of market manipulation going on in the market

I heard very little suggestion of market manipulation on this and the "ideas" thread as the market made new highs during summer. Let's face it what we are seeing is a correction of serious over-valuations in some stocks and in the process all stocks have come down. For example, DELL with a PSR of > 6, AOL and YHOO with totally ridiculous valuations--still ludicrous IMO. I could name a dozen others--including one that I hold as an investment--and did not follow my own sell disciplines to exit the stock when I knew it was very over-valued only to see it now at less than one-third of where it was. The fact that the stock I am referring to is substantially lower, has nothing to do with manipulation but more to do with its valuation coming back to reality.

Now that the market heads lower correcting its excesses, the reason for the decline of several stocks is being attributed to manipulation.Re CYMI--it is no different than any other stock--when a stock disappoints, in any way shape or form, it gets slaughtered -- that is nothing new. Look at what happened to OXHP or SPCT.

I look for opportunities when this happens--the over-reaction by institutions and funds dumping these stocks mindlessly is the time to do ones homework and see whether they are worth owning.

Needless to say you and I disagree about manipulation--but one of the biggest mistakes that one can make is to attribute external nefarious actions to ones own trading mistakes.

btw, don't feel that your contrary opinion should preclude you from posting--as Jim pointed out, this thread has a variety of opinions, strategies and individuals--and the arbiter of who is right or wrong is the market.
