''Michael has exactly the combination of experience and industry knowledge that makes him a good fit for Ascend,'' said
Ejabat. ''He has worked both with rapidly growing, entrepreneurial companies and with very large companies. Michael will
be able to implement the systems, processes, and financial planning tools that Ascend needs as we reach a new stage in our
development.''

Ashby has over 20 years of financial management experience. Two years ago, he became CFO of the Pacific Telesis
Enterprise Group. When Pacific Telesis, a holding company which owned Pacific Bell, was acquired by SBC, he became
vice president and CFO of Pacific Bell and its subsidiaries. Previously, Ashby spent three years at Network Systems
Corporation, initially as CFO and subsequently as president and CEO. Ashby's background also includes senior financial
management positions with Adidas and General Electric Company in both Europe and the U.S.

''I'm very excited by this opportunity,'' said Ashby. ''Ascend is a great company that with the addition of Cascade, faces
both new opportunities and challenges. I am delighted to be a part of the team that intends to make Ascend as successful in
the future as it has been in the past.''

This from the company release. I think his qualifications are quite timely?

Gary,

Looking forward to the week:
CSCO reports Tues. after the bell. Hopefully they will surprise and give the sector a boost. Also, looking for an upgrade on ASND this week. From Zacks, 7 of 29 analysts already had ASND @ Strong Buy, that leaves 22 chances if you will for an upgrade. Pretty good odds, especially if management guides analysts that October was decent and that they are "cautiously optimistic" re the Dec. quarter.

I accumulated a pretty good chunk of shares on Fri. averaging down for the last time. I'd sure like to say good-bye to $20's for good, especially because I'm only hanging onto my shares in my margin account by a thread.

Larry

OK you guys, Gary, Style, Larry, Glenn - I know I'm going
to take some heat for this but - COMS? Why does ASND need all
the overlap AND BAGGAGE that comes with COMS?

NICs? Soon they'll be integrated on the motherboard.
Shared Hubs? - an older small growth market.
X2? - K-Flex and the new Rockwell 1MB chip will dominate.
Total Control? Overlap with TNT and TNT will win the carrier market, IMO.
GE? ASND doesn't have it, but MRVC/NBASE has much better products and
prices than COMS, BAY or CSCO and no overlap for ASND - a much better
move.
F/R and ATM? ASND is well positioned except for Voice.

IMO, COMS NEEDS ASND, but ASND does not need COMS.

Somebody tell me why this makes MORE sense for ASND than other
moves they could make - other than saving Style some commissions <ggg>.
