It's ok Greg, you work for the government and think all stocks suck, so if you need to vent, go right ahead. Your view of the computer industry is myopic at best though. We are currently basking in a economy that can be largely attributed PCs and their distributive computer model that have allowed. I'll quote one sentence from your rambling (your words) "(as though any of us truly needed any of the computers we wasted our money on over the past 10 years!)" That says it all. ÿ

Greg - So what are you trying to say, that CPQ is taking over because of the sub 1k PC? Is that it? Let us know!!! By the way, if it wasn't for that #%$@$@ computer, (and the network), none of us would be able to read what you had to say!!!!

John

By the way, I'm a bit hazy over your connection between 'the end of technology as we know it' and Monday. Did tech investors suddenly realize on Monday that today's technology is now 'kaput', or did the sellof cause them to realize it. If the answer is (2), please explain the move on Tuesday.....

gmc,,,,,the pc is the nothing part of this deal, tandems from cpq cost 1 million or more and servers are like 100k to 600k
then they have the basic config that cost 25k..
there are cheaper servers at cpq but who wants them.
the strategy now is buy a huge server and then grow into it.
I/S directors have learned that you buy a big server and then don't have to keep changing.
you get at least 20 gig of hotswapple disk drives raid 5,
you get the dlt tape backups, CD rom.
the fastest controllers and nics, you get 200+ meg of mem. maybe just buy one of those 256mb modules..one module<gg>
pc's are just part of the deal......they aren't the real deal

MSFT, Bill's empire will have to diversify.-- Only the truly smart will survive.

Greg-- Give me a break. Don't bet against MSFT/INTC
