However, if it stops that monstrosity currently in Congress, I will shed one fewer tear over the tragedy. And when the same tactics are used to stop an agenda you favor dead in its tracks, perhaps desperately needed reforms and changes you believe are vital, you will be disgusted with the process then. But having stood up and said, "Go for it, trash this joint at any cost," your options for a higher road are pretty much shot to hell at that point. Enjoy that future, because that's what we'll get.

Lane3, while I applaud the sentiment your author is trying to have his cake and eat it. Sure, he'll pay lip service to the idea that you find such garbage on both sides, but even though the right wing garbage drifts by at an alarming rate, he only picks some left wing stuff to discuss. Quite frankly, it's he who as scuttled his own argument. You can give folks the benefit of the doubt if they appear to be going for even handedness- when I see someone take one example from one side (when they could have easily taken examples from both sides) I think they are either stupid, careless, or have an axe. I don't know which applies to your author, but he makes his point poorly. It's a point I like, but it's poorly done. Try to imagine if I made an argument for kinder gentler discourse, and then took as my example of negativity Baby Bush, without including something from the Obama admin. You might justifiably say I was being hypocritical...
