Energy independence - or reduced dependence - is a completely - completely - different issue than green energy. Incidentally, we will never be energy independent. The world is too interlocked. What we can do is sufficiently diversify that one group does not have us by the you know what.

We're not going to get closer to energy independence shutting down coal plants and mines, holding domestic energy resources off the market, slapping carbon taxes on the same.
