I don't know your experience, but if you ask the question "are you happpier with your phone service or your cable TV service..? my answer will be the cable..! I know you are trying to set the record straight from the technical point of view about phone lines, but I have some serious concerns about them.

As far as I am concerned, that copper wire will not do...! Don't you ever hear people talking on the background while you are on the phone. You may not, but I did when I was living on the east cost until four weeks ago. Now that I moved to Seattle, I have a new phone connected three weeks ago. There is radio music on the phone line...constantly...., at times it is even louder than the dial tone. And three weeks passed nobody (including the phone company) is able to find out where the music is coming from. I was really afraid that I will not be even able to get connected to the net with this kind of line quality. I am happy that I can, but I cannot get anything higher than 28800. I cannot imagine the phone lines being used for high speed data transmission in the future unless something changes with the phone lines (and that seems to be the line itself, which is why cable looks like my next bet because it is already there in all the homes).

Good luck in your investment strategies.

Maybe we will be able to get the higher speeds on phone lines but how fast? Also I don't want to switch my provider to get a little more. I want it all 40 meg downstream 10 meg back. I'll just have to wait for @home or another alternative that comes close .
