A great mechanic is a gem. I'm assuming this is the shop owner. If that is the case, have the shop approve new vehicles and inspect used ones before purchase.

That's the kind of business man my son is. He installs and services about 50 different machines used in tire shops. When he makes a repair, he tells them he thinks X is a solution, and if it turns out to be wrong he credits them and puts in the right solution.

I hope I can trust the dealership to treat me likewise.

Meanwhile, I'm doing my best to get up to speed with the problem, and even know the codes that are supposed to be reported if the devices fail.

I have a backwoods mechanic that I like also. It would be a major operation to get my truck up to him.
