And I didn't make it out to be a "technicality". I find it interesting that when the DOJ under Bush finally decided they couldn't ignore illegal actions by the Bush administration appointees, they often managed to botch the job so the convictions got thrown out. In this case, the number of charges he could be retried on were very much reduced. So they could only get him on lying about his association with Abramoff. Which you seem to think was a minor thing.
