Unless you were thoroughly searched each time, you could easily load a bag or line a jacket with plastic explosive while ashore and do some damage to a cruise ship, though I doubt you could sink one since they are so huge and stabilized.

I don't know that there is a SAFE way to travel anymore.

Has there ever been? Flying even if you include 9-11 I believe is safer today than it ever has been - so is auto travel. We just hear of it faster now, have it pushed in front of us daily and are told to be afraid by the extreme right. We let the bad guys win if we live our lives talking constantly about this fear.
