There is another problem with Islam. Each Imam can interpret the Quran however they chose and there is no authority, or public criticism to offset it. Christianity and Judaism, for example, have ways for deviant interpretations to be declared as apostacy and thereby generally identified as non-authoritative. So, when an Islamic cleric declares a Jihad against someone there is no way to counter his statement and it is considered authoritative by his followers.

Unfortunately, Mohammad himself was a believer of evangelism by the sword. So, one has to put Islam in a different category from Christianity and Judaism.

Best,

JRH

My answer would be because unlike Christianity they never experienced a reformation and the resulting separation of churh and state. Imagine how different our society would be if there had been no reformation or Henry VIII.

Bingo!! Great post!
