I am the Other. They'd never tell me. This is the concept I have the hardest time getting across to my friends in northern Jersey when I talk about my friends in central Texas. They suggest I ask about this or that. But my Jersey friends genuinely don't understand that, for my Texas friends, (and "friends" is an odd word here, but it's a word my Texas friends and I would use about one another) I, as you so eloquently put it, am the Other. And, best I can tell, that's the big difference between the earlier part of this century, say 2003 and/or 2004 and now. I suspect that the titling point was Obama's election.
