Does anyone understand the issue with the tax on expensive insurance? I looked at the threshold numbers and they are so high it's hard to believe than anyone has health insurance that costs that much. I have excellent insurance and it's not even close. Federal Blue Cross, the pricier option, costs $2K under the threshold for individuals. Can anyone explain who and why anyone would have employer-provided group insurance that costs that much more?

People are always angling to promote their stuff. The good of the country is secondary if it's a factor at all. Sigh!

It may be a secondary factor unfortunately, but it is a major secondary factor, many think the stuff their promoting is good for the country.

Democrats supporting this bill might prefer single payer, or some other change, but they can't get it and they see this as better than the status quo. Surprisingly some seem willing to seriously harm their chances for re-election (normally their primary concern) in order to pass this bill (but how much of that is motivated by "good for the country" and how much is because "good for my party" is hard to tell)

Republicans largely see anything that would get enough Democratic votes to pass (at least when the Democrats have the numbers to drive the process), as being worse than the status quo, so they think the good of the country is best covered by fighting attempt rather than being co-opted in to it.

Even the Democrats who get special cut outs, exemptions, or benefits for their states in order to get their support for the bill, probably don't see them as harming the country significantly and do see them as helping their state, and their chances in the next election (which for many is primary).
