No, the killer is that we have to foot the bill to station the 5th carrier fleet in a small section of the world that would be otherwise struggling to make it to the industrial age.

If you factor that in, and all the heartbreak, blood, and treasure we've spent over the past 40 years trying to keep the goey stuff flowing, I think shale economics look pretty damn good.

SA does have high quality reserves ... as well as some not so high quality.

But the straw in the sand is true only if thats what you call directional drilling and waterflooding.

And what makes shale gas recoverable ..... directional drilling and hydraulic fracing.

Hmm. Shale gas is also found in nicer neighborhoods than the Persian Gulf.
