What do you think MAD was about? It was about a huge escalation in nuclear power. It was about a race to get the most missiles possible to ensure that any initiation of nuclear war would result in the annihilation of both countries, and the world itself, making nuclear war unthinkable to a rational person.

The point is that you totally don't understand Reagan vis-à-vis MAD. He frequently and clearly denounced MAD from the earliest days of his presidency, and in fact, had frequently characterized the policy as insane well before the 70s. NEVER could anyone who understands the Reagan presidency be confused about this subject.

Reagan fully understood that nuclear disarmament is feasible only through military strength -- a concept that is anathema to the Left.

The INF and START I were direct results Reagan's understanding of this key point. Contrary to some liberal historical accounts, Reagan knew from Day One that his first objective was nuclear disarmament and the ELIMINATION of MAD (which he considered to be an absolutely insane policy, contrary to your claim) by WINNING the Cold War. His announcement of SDI was in accordance with that objective and was made without so much as the agreement of many of his top staff.

I think it is fine if you want to cite Reagan in some connection but you ought to at least study the history first so you have at least a basic idea of what was going on in the Reagan administration because your earlier post on this thread clearly reflects absolute confusion on your part.
