Israel is about double Iran's GDP per capita. NZ is about the same as Israel. NZ and Israel are about half the best few countries. NZ was once top of the pops but 40 years of welfare state socialist declines have put us among the also-rans while Hong Kong and Singapore have soared up the ranks to the top. en.wikipedia.org Israel [the area] a few decades ago was not far off zero. It's now a real country. Since Jews moved in en masse they have made the place quite profitable. What is sophisticated about Iran's culture compared with the swarms of other countries? It seems quite medieval. Iran had the good fortune to have a lot of oil and gas. Without that, there'd be not much economic value there. They can barely keep themselves in gasoline. Mqurice
