Speaking of brousing - they are having one of those antique road shows here today...

I arrived just in time before my father was taking off for it, for him to ask me about his Japanese short sword, that I mentioned long ago here. They mentioned in the write up that war stuff is a 'hot' item, and he wanted to know my opinion on saling it if it would fetch a price...

for some background, they are moving to a retirement place once the house sells, so over T-day, the children and grandchildren set about putting their names on things. No one picked the sword, but it doesn't look like much and hangs by his desk (only because I took it out of the closet and hung it with his Auburn things there) and no one knows 'what' it is but me. but...

I'd already put my nephew's name on it, after mine (though I would likely pass it to him right off).

anyways, he asked me what would be a price. I said $2000. I've been working on a cabin design that is off-grid (solar, no septic) to build by the river, where the grandchildren want a place, and I could do it for $2000. A 'nicer' place could be built on the mountain with electricity and country water and a septic tank, but to do that by the river? So could have the 'nice' place on the hill, then walk or 4-wheel down to the river and stay in the cabin.

even so... I would like to build AND have the sword. but that would not be a bad trade-off? any less than that cabin, tho... I prefer the sword.

okay, I just looked up on Ebay, and they only go for less than 100 and most I saw was 500. forget it. that sword matters more than that. there are things I would sell to pay the monthly bills, but that is only worth a cabin, albeit a 'cheap' cabin. :)

Now my father needs to tell his grandson the story so he'll understand the passing along.

Once his parents things were gone through, we didn't end up with much, but they were things no one else much noticed to that I snagged up...

my Uncle James' marbles and toy cars and his pipes. he was the eldest, but 'simple in the head', so really my father was 'eldest'. anyways... he loved marbles, just like me. and toy cars. and he always smoked a corncob pipe and mostly fashioned his own. I have 5 of them. and...

I got my Papa's church hat. Several years ago I gave that to my Bro-in-law for Christmas.

and shhhhhhhhh, I got Papa's pearl cuff links, and my great-grandfather Kelton's gold cuff links with K etched in them. I am holding on to those. I am not sure my nephew appreciates cufflinks, I need to decide. and if one of the nieces finds a male person (or female) who does... or if they themselves do?

I love french shirts that need cuff links. those cuff links are precious.

Just occurred to me, maybe I could offer them for weddings, then they return to the vault?
