The current situation is completely different than when Volker was Fed chairman so the specter of 20% rates again is nothing but fear propaganda.

Still there is little doubt Volker would be more responsible that Ben B and probably would hike rates modestly before long giving savers a better deal.

Volker probably is too old to serve as Fed chairman so there is almost no chance he will get the job even if Ben is rejected IMHO.

He got static face to face too. I remember one semi girl friend who worked part time for a catering outfit in DC while trying to make it as a RE agent. At an affair she was serving at, Volker was there. She made a point of announcing how she was forced to moonlight and gave him the evil eye. He went on placidly smoking his cigar.
