He was arguing against the argument you presented, even though it is not one you expressed any support for.

That's a pretty normal thing to do, and one that should be pretty obvious, not one that should cause shock and strong reactions, at least not if he didn't directly say that you supported it, which he did not.

If you had presented Osama bin Laden's argument about why the US should be attacked, and Peter denounced it, that would not mean he was calling you a terrorist or saying that you think the same way as OBL.
