HOW COULD PEOPLE AFFORD TO LIVE IN CALIFORNIA...

Without prop 13?????

I spoke to retiree in Sausalito last week who bought his home 38 years ago and paid it off. It's probably worth 1.5 million.

Without prop 13 taxes on his home would probably be 1.25% or over $18,000 per year.

Taxes and fees in CA are refarkingdiculous,

I just checked on the cost to put a 1000 sq ft structure up in foothills east of Fresno.

they have one fee after another and when you add them all up I guestimate the building fees and permits to be between $11-$12k

A lot of people are packing their bags and moving OUT of California. We're having a REVERSE DUSTBOWL.

as ruminated over in 2006, prop 13 will break

as eventually with all fiat legalistic interventions, and when so

chaos shall reign, just as in case of any floodgate breaking,

the forces would be irresistible

Prop 13 was and is simplistic and causes a number of problems

- However, the state of California has been able to get revenue from income and sales taxes to generate per capita revenue close to that of Massachusetts and New York.

all 2007 numbers

per capita state government revenue

New York $3,250
Massachusetts $3,195
California $3,154

Winters are milder in most of California, and this will reduce the cost of government for building heating, snow removal, and road repair.

>>> What does California state government need to do beyond what New York and Massachusetts do ? <<<

The answer is nothing.

Unless you think California should move even further down the road to socialism and attempts at wealth redistribution than New York and Massachusetts.

California should live within it means.

By the way, what do you mean by "social system" ?
Would you say Texas has a good social system ?
