One other point on education. For the last number of years, I think this is correct, around 50% of all incoming freshmen to UC Berkeley are asian. A percentage far higher than their numbers in the population.

My guess is that the asian culture seems to value eduction more than western cultures. Still trying to figure out the dynamic of that? Maybe Asians rely less on myth and more on philosophy, so once eduction became available they were drawn to it.

Certainly Confucism, Taoism and Buddhism are among the worlds most profound philosophies, which I put beside the ancient Greeks in importance to civilized thought.

Depends on what you exempt.. but I understand your point and it's valid.. say a program similar to GST rebates based upon income.. poorest people are already starving.. Agree they do not need that extra burden..

Lower middle class are hurting also in present system... Think of all the Mercedes and Beamers in Toronto.. Think of the homes.. that's a lot of revenue.. cottages.. My son ski races.. we could never afford the places he races at with rates as high as 60K membership and 5K annually.. our cost is less than a grand for him.. I can handle a higher VAT on that,,, but don't tax my cap gains.. Besides I live on those now :O)

My problem is also the waste we have in government just look @ eHealth.. and that is not the first boondoggle in that regards.. The computerised systems put in in places like Toronto General were costwise appalling years ago.. but that is another tale..

So let's say no income taxes and even less to none at all on the poor.. No argument from me..

i fear rich people would be overwhelmed and slaughtered right before the poor starve to death

i suspect the officialdom fear same, and so they try to print wealth

which has the effect of ramping the rich:poor gulf and expediting the onset of slaughter

that is how history had typically played out

let us watch n brief on greece

the private banks are reporting large outflows of moolah

the greek politicians will shut the democratic gate of capital flight after the last of the truly rich departs and gives the all clear signal
