I do think market dynamics has a way of democratizing a country over a long period of time. But what China is doing is stacking the deck in their favor. Holding their currency values down artificially is destroying our manufacturing base, what's left of it anyway. Then engaging in cyberwarfare to steal our intellectual property has already resulted in billions if not hundreds of billions in lost wealth for our country. Don't minimize the threat they post. They are already much more impactful that Al Qaeda.
