btw, the usa govt is way bigger than china govt. just look at true tax bite as percentage of puffed-up gdp.

Hmm.. maybe you need to move to the mainland.. I think taxes are higher than there in your gilded cage in HK.. ;0):

Pretty similar tax rates to ours, especially with regard to those making over 100,000K per month.

How long will HK be able to maintain their low tax rates in the face of what people on the mainland are having to pay?

you are not the freest if at all in the universe and not the wealthiest in the galaxy :0)

It all depends upon one's perspective and their willingness to defend that world vision.

Freedom GIVEN to you can be just as easily be TAKEN AWAY. But for a nation that believes every individual was born with god-given rights, the freedom to exercise those right can only be DEFENDED or STOLEN..

A bit of difference in mindset, IMO. It's the difference between waking up being grateful to the power elite that they PERMIT you to exercise the rights they allow you, and waking up feeling blessed that you have certain rights by virtue of being a human being.

Unfortunately, too many Americans have taken those unalienable rights for granted. But more and more are waking up to face the reality of the income disparity you mentioned, and wondering why the banking fat cats are making billions in bonuses for churning capital, rather than deploying it to main street small business.

and many can choose which one of 2-4 passports to travel for which ever trip, for however long, without being burdened with exit tax - you have some interesting ideas about cages ;0)

It's funny how you keep trying to assign the benefits you temporarily (in all likelihood) enjoy in HK as being representative of the rest of China. For instance, while HK is fully guaranteeing deposits through 2010, that's not the case for people living on the mainland.

But then again, most people on the mainland have far less in their savings than y'all do in HK. Less than $50k is normal, from what I'm seeing and China is discussing limiting their depositor insurance to that current level.

Heck.. that would pay for a small walk-in closet in one of your HK apartments, right?.. ;0)

As for unemployment, how many college graduates have "fake contracts" falsely stating they are employed?:

There's "big government" for you... Can't have the universities sending out graduates without having jobs lined up. So they create jobs to make their stats look good for the bigwigs in Bejing.

p.s. are we agreed that the bigger the govt, the greater the evil?

Never questioned that fact... But what's ironic is that you're living in a country where government is predominant, paternalistic, and all-powerful (they have guns and you don't.. at least not legally).

Sure.. you're living large now, but only because they are letting you for Bejing's own selfish purposes. Because you serve as a financial channel between the mainland and West. But eventually your role will be duplicated and you won't be so special anymore.

But you're just as disposable as we are..

Cheers!!
