I think a majority of Americans would like that, and would support a healthcare reform bill that provided it.

Maybe I'm being naive, but I think they would, too, IF they understand exactly how a single-payer system operates. I fault the Dem pols for not using every opportunity they have had for the past 14 months to educate the public.

Perhaps it's because a Canadian system would destroy the jobs in the private insurance world, that Dems have not tried to educate the public. To that I would say that the US could have a hybrid system. We don't have to adopt completely a Canadian or French system, for ex. We could design something unique to our system and preserve most of the jobs in the private insurance industry.

I'm watching the CNN coverage of the health insurance debate. I hate saying this but the Rs are asking thoughtful and substantive questions. They appear to know something about all the cogs in the healthcare machinery. So far too many of the Dems are just touting the plaintive stories of their constituents. I guess they're trying to make an appeal for reform to take place? Seems to me everyone is past that....all know the system is terribly flawed, if not broken.

Dems aren't looking good in this debate so far, I think. I noticed this in the hearings that grilled Geithner and Paulson. Dems used too much of their time to complain and tug at heartsprings, instead of trying to drill down and discover what went wrong.

Sigh.
