Looks like one-sided "conventional wisdom" as they put it and guesswork colored by the WSJ's usual spin.

The House Whip, Clyburn, was on MSNBC last night very confident about the vote count. And he is the guy who literally rounds them up and counts before a vote goes forward.

That said, this Congress is a cross between a circus and an avalanche in progress so anything can happen.

This is from today's Wall Street Journal - it seems common to attack the source ( WSJ is a right wing rag, etc.) but rather than focusing on that, is this the actual situation or not?

Actually, we don't do that. There is a large historic difference between the opinion pages of the WSJ and the serious reporting. In fact, for many years the WSJ's investigative reporting staff was among the best in the country, if not "the" best.

But the opinion pages have always, well at least since the mid 70s, been wooly eyed very right wing conspiratorially inclined.

Apparently, that piece is from the editorial board which, as an appendage of the Republican Party, uses every means at their disposal to undermine the passage of any healthcare reform bill. Any. This fits well within that frame.

Clyburn says he has the votes which is about as good a source as there is. Which doesn't mean he has them but is definitely a more reliable place to get some information. He will be held accountable for his accounting. The WSJ editorial page folk will not be.

My own guess, restated again, is that once an arrangement is worked out with the senate for reconciliation and the specifics of reconciliation, Pelosi and her crew will be able to find the votes. I'll be surprised if they can't. Too much at stake for the Dems. But then they've surprised me more than I care to admit. Lately.
