Governance requires compromise...often what is good for a majority is not perfectly suited to any single individual. Try to think beyond your immediate needs.

Precisely why a competitive market system is preferable. Then individuals can each seek to satisfy their needs, however diverse. No one needs to swim or squeeze into one size fits all. That's a good thing.

Governance requires compromise.

Actually it doesn't. Both in the sense that a sufficiently powerful and united party in government can ram something through and get it passed in government; and in the more important sense that the government activity itself rams something through on unwilling people, it doesn't compromise. As George Washington put it "government is force".

often what is good for a majority is not perfectly suited to any single individual.

Adding to costs isn't good for the majority, or for single individuals. except the one who's getting the benefit.

Also your post isn't really a response to mine. You talked about prevention as saving money, but it doesn't. Saying "try to think beyond your immediate needs" as a reply to that is a non-sequitur.
