What do you think a private "medicare like" program would cost the nation? It's called a mandatory insurance and health savings plan. It should cost a lot less, and nothing to the taxpayer. A privatized medicare_like program would merely re-distribute some of the cost but in the end the total bill of caring for Americans would be largely unchanged if not higher. It would be cheaper because the politicians and lawyers wouldn't get a piece of the pie, and private insurance companies keep a closer eye on fraud than lazy government workers.
