You're the guy I need an apology! I was wrong to go against your case of handing over a copy of a driver's license to the corrupt cops.

I discovered that you action was necessary and there was no alternative to it.

Perhaps my natural way of reacting to wayo and defending the legal way clouded my view of the issue.

Yes, you should give copy of the drivers license to the bastards.

It's the same as the mafia. One day, the county cops will have a shootout with the state cops for the same turf they want to use for revenue shakedowns, er, traffic tickets.

The one time I was stopped for a traffic ticket in Mexico, and I was in the wrong, I was most helpful to the officer in filling out the ticket - which pissed him off no end. He wanted a bribe instead of proceeding to write the ticket.

When I was in college I got into an argument with the Federales at the internal border who wanted to charge us a fee for a Tourist Visa. I insisted they were free and they finally decided I was correct when I suggested we call the Minister of Tourism at his toll-free number.

I had another discussion with a US Customs official who wanted to charge me an absurd duty on some artwork I was bringing into the U.S. as he claimed my receipt was not for the correct price. I asked him, "Are you actually claiming this is fine art?" He replied, "Of course it is." When I pointed out that fine art is duty-free he looked like he wanted slug me. His supervisor put his hand on his shoulder, shook his head, smiled and waved me through.

Never participate with corrupt or badly intentioned people. This is the only way which works out to your advantage in the long-run.
