Why don't we do something creative - like put in place a graduated tax increase (grows on a defined schedule over say 10 years) on gasoline so people will make an economic decision to drive less. What a novel idea that would be. Then perhaps people would take public transportation.

Trust me spending billions to build high speed rail that no one will use is plain stupid - especially when it is billions we do not have - something you sometimes care about. Not only is the initial waste - but it is the operating subsidies to keep it going. The Ohio "low speed" rail plan is pure idiocy - and even the politicians here know it - but they WANT THE FEDERAL MONEY! Heck - why not - why should Nebraska get a buyout and Ohio not? All pigs to the trough before it is empty.

"Ohio High Speed Rail Would Run On $17 Million Deficit" - wanna bet that is all?

When is it appropriate to spend billions of dollars we do not have and when is it not?

Perhaps the best solution to traffic congestion is the coming economic collapse of the economy due to debt, debt and more debt. After all - the current recession has done wonders to reduce energy usage and CO2 emissions.
