The real crisis is all about Iran's nuclear program... Commentators and pundits talk about US-Israeli relations reaching a low point as during Nixon's presidency --I say it's similar to the US-Israel tensions under Dwight Eisenhower.

Somehow, Ahmadinejad is a modern-day Gamal A. Nasser: Iran's nuclear program is the Iranian "Suez Canal". In 1956, after the secret Protocol of Sèvres, the UK, France and Israel teamed up to attack Egypt... France and the UK wanted to teach the Arabs a lesson and reclaim the Suez Canal, whereas Israel merely sought to grab the Sinai. But eventually, the US --under Ike-- demanded that the belligerents stop the war.

I believe today we're faced with a similar alliance: Israeli bombers will attack and bomb Iran from France's brand-new military base in Abu Dhabi --watch the video:

Last modification: 26/05/2009 - aviation - French military - Nicolas Sarkozy - United Arab Emirates

Sarkozy to open new French base during Abu Dhabi visit

No more need for Israel to beg the US Centcom the greenlight to fly over Iraq... and, what's more, Abu Dhabi's just 300 miles from Iranian shores!

Phil > A U.S. envoy's postponement of his Mideast trip appeared Tuesday to deepen one of the worst U.S.-Israeli feuds in memory – even as Israel's foreign minister signaled his government had no intention of curtailing the contentious construction at the heart of the row.

A Punch and Judy show to impress the Palestinians that the US is on their side and induce/seduce them into being more reasonable in their terms of negotiation. Reasonable, meaning to agree with whatever Israel offers.

Only when the US is prepared to inflict real costs on Israel, eg sanctions, curtailment of military supplies or stopping of financial aid, will one be able to say US/Israeli relations are bad.
