Well, I only know from movies and observations out of church. I see them saying 'God bless me' or 'Father bless me for I have sinned' or asking a nun or Mother Mary, Jesus, etc to bless them. I thought the crossing thing was similar but you say not. I don't really understand the term self-blessing except as some kind of yogic meditation or personal affirmation or something. Lacking disputation from another Catholic, I'm ready to just let it set at this point. I admit, I don't really get it if it is according to your claims.
