How about the fact that we need farmers to farm to provide food for the rest of us? Hmm.

We do need farmers. So what? Connect the dots, please. The question is why it's vital to our national interests for the taxpayers to supply people who live out in the sticks with broadband. Your response suggests that without broadband there will be no farmers. Surely that's not what you had in mind.
