"It's about time these slackers developed some responsibility for their own lives. If a fine helps modify their irresponsible behavior, so much the better.

A nice kick in the pants might be helpful as well."

I think you are overgeneralizing. There are many people who have had pre-existing conditions who have been denied coverage and can't get health insurance at an affordable cost (My family was one). I would guess in the end this new legislation won't make it that much more affordable.

<Imagine the horror of the uninsured being required to purchase health insurance . . .>

Imagine the horror of a $700 a month health insurance bill when you are unemployed and age 48. Imagine the hopelessness when you have to throw in another $500 for the wife, and another $500 for two teenagers yet to flee the nest.

All good if you are a bankster or totally oblivious, I guess.

Imagine the horror of the uninsured being required to purchase health insurance . . .

. . . rather than socializing their family's medical costs onto the taxpayer and health insurance rate-payers.

===

I quit the health insurance system when my small group plan premium went to $1,600 a month for me and one employee, since then I have just paid cash for medical services.

I guess that makes me some kind of freeloader. It is often difficult to get the idea of paying cash through the heads of the gatekeepers

"Can I have your insurance card?"
"I don't have insurance, I'll be paying cash."
"Sorry but all services must be paid for when they are provided."
"Yes, I know, that is why I am offering you a substantial sum of legal tender."
"I don't know if we can accept this ..."
"Of course you can accept it, it's money, I'm not even asking for my change back!"

There are a lot of freeloaders out there who object to sending a large sum of money to BCBS every month, and would prefer to pay for their medical expenses as they go.

I can't wait for this plan to take hold. I'm just going to bank all the money in my MSA. Pay the fine each year until I get sick and then buy insurance and pay the same as everybody else in my age group. If I'm lucky, I'll make it to 65 and Medicare will take over. WHEEEEEE!

Elroy, that's how this bill and the talking points are designed to make you *feel*.

the reality is it will asset strip americans and enrich the financial oligarchs even more. that is what it was designed to do and that is what it will *do*.

see the health care stocks?

more profits for the oligarchs at the EXPENSE of the people.

shorter term, the market liked the fact that more taxes can be stolen in order keep fueling the looting and the looting mechanism (government).

they are robbing us blind - can't you see that?

the solution is to end debt based money and return the money powers to the people.

swarmusa.com has a method to accomplish this.
