"It was a convenient excuse for him to avoid pay health insurance premiums after his divorce. The premiums from these folks with an "independent streak" will lower premiums for the responsible who already pay for medical insurance."

My guess is people like your ex-business partner are the exception and people like me, who had to fork over over 2k/month because of what was really a minor medical condition were the rule. Someone who's financially (and morally) responsible won't risk family ruin by not having medical insurance. The current system puts people in the position of either risking their entire net worth on an unforeseen medical emergency or a slow death through usurious premiums that can be raised at will. Unless of course one of the spouses is fortunate enough to find a job where health insurance is a benefit.

Complete BS.

How does it work when the kids start transferring all the assets from Mom & dad so Mom and dad can sponge off the gov't as they age? What's the limit, 3 years or 5 years? that's very easy to plan for.

Free medical isn't taxed as income. You will see a whole new cottage industry of financial planning attys working the scam for those that can afford it(i.e. pay for the attys).

"I rent from my kids' trust for $600 a month. Can I have my free medical now?"

wanna bet? i can't believe how naive people are... the costs are likely gonna go up big time b/c their customer base is now captive.

when people pay the $2k fine to avoid insurance en masse and only sign up when they get sick, the oligarchs will order their government puppets to change the law and up the fine.

a government big enough to give you everything you want (much at someone else's expense - people love that idea!) is also big enough to take everything you have.

and take they have started - and the will not stop until we stop them.

btw, aren't you excited about getting all that health care... that starts in 2018? go ahead and pay your taxes now, though... so the oligarchs can steal it and none is left in 2018...

the whole point of $1000 hammers was the price tag - it is legalized looting! don't you get it? the politicians made sure those hammers cost $1000 as they got a kick back from their special interests earning $1000 per hammer.
