If the proposed combination of fines and incentives are not enough to set the financially irresponsible onto a less self-destructive path, they can be easily increased.

In Switzerland if your free-spirit nature causes you to cancel your health insurance plan, without purchasing a replacement, you get a Summons to appear in court before your insurance expires.

If you can't show just cause for canceling your insurance, the judge provides you with free health insurance as an inmate in the local jail - until such time as you decide to reinstate your medical insurance. In Switzerland, lunatics receive a helping hand.

Why bother to pay, if everyone is in good health? Go naked, pay the fine (< $750/year). If something major comes up get coverage then.

That's the best solution as long as you don't get in an accident.

what happens if I f*ck up my knee while I'm skiing? can I sign up for insurance at the hospital?

listen -- that's what was missed in the statistics in the debate -- some people chose "naked" as a financial decision -- they COULD by but didn't see the risk reward at their age/health ... I only have catastrophic -- I couldn't justify paying for full coverage -- got no history of problems, but were I 20-30 years younger and someone wanted the kind of money I am paying now -- heck, yeah -- why pay -- what do you have to protect at that age??

They should have worked on the only 2 real problems -- 1) those who couldn't get coverage at ANY price and 2) those who were being dropped in the middle of some "event"
